Bulldog Rescues

Bulldog rescues are non-profit organizations that re-home homeless purebred Bulldogs that were surrendered by their former owners. Unfortunately, the more popular the breed is, the more dogs are abandoned by their owners. Popularity of the breed is often detrimental for the quality of purebred dogs, because many irresponsible profit-oriented breeders produce poor quality dogs and sell them to impulsive buyers who want to own a dog of this breed as a matter of prestige or just because they like its looks. Abundance of poorly bred dogs does nothing but harm to the public image of the breed.

Another problem with purebred dogs of popular breeds is irresponsible ownership. Bulldog rescues are full of dogs bought by unknowledgeable owners who saw a Bulldog in the neighborhood, at dog shows, or at the website of a breeder and decided to buy the same pet. Unknowledgeable owners don’t realize that a dog becomes a reliable and friendly companion only if given enough attention and proper training. Though Bulldogs are intelligent, quiet, and communicative by nature, they may become stubborn, dominating, and vicious, if not well cared for.

Breeders who produce quality Bulldogs, insist on returning the dog back to the kennel, if the owner cannot keep it any longer for any reason. If a Bulldog was purchased from a backyard breeder or from a puppy mill, the dog will be surrendered to the rescue. That’s why it’s difficult to find quality dogs in Bulldog rescues. Volunteers and foster families do everything they can to rehabilitate homeless dogs, but they cannot cure their health disorders and fix possible behavior problems completely.

Adopting a dog is the only way out for those who cannot afford a purebred puppy. Another reason for adopting a dog is getting an adult and housebroken pet instead of a puppy that needs much time and efforts to housebreak. In a rescue, you can choose any dog you like. Foster owners can help with the choice of the most suited dog. All adopted dogs are spayed or neutered. Bulldog rescues offer only pet quality dogs that can neither be bred nor participate in shows for purebreds.
