Notwithstanding their past, these are very people oriented dogs. They are very playful and love children though you need not leave the dog with small children anyway. There is nothing a dog of this breed loves better than playing in the yard with children. However, like any other dog breed, the dogs should be supervised when with kids. These are short-coated dogs with a square body type and muscular build. Generally speaking, the English, the American, and the French types have common features.

These dogs became fully reliable on their owners. If a dog of this breed becomes homeless, it has no chances to survive. These dogs don't need much exercise and training, but they cannot live without human attention and care. The breed is prone to a number of hereditary disorders, but it doesn't mean that every dog will develop health problems, especially if it was obtained from a reliable breeder.
